A Study on Group Music Therapy to Improve Social Skill of Children with Low-income Family

Abstract
This study was to see whether a group music therapy was effective on improving sociality of some children from low-income families. The subjects were 6 eleven-year- old children at S Social Welfare Center in Daejeon. All of them were lack of peer relations. They received 10 sessions of group music therapy twice a week, one hour each sessions. Social Skill Rating System - Teacher Form Test was used to examine changes in social behaviors. paired t-test using SSPS WIN 18.0 statistical analysis was used to examine inspection results pre and post test. The results of this study were follows : First, the sociabilities of the participant children from low-income families were increased. the cooperativeness, the assertiveness and the self-control of them were boosted meaningfully(p<.001) through group music therapy. Second, the group music therapy treatment had an effect on increasing the positive social behaviors of the participant children. This results indicated that the group music therapy was effective on increasing the positive social behaviors of the children from low-income families by improving their cooperativeness and assertion, self-control.
